“Newcastle is a surf mad town with a lot of talented young bodyboarders,” said Terry McKenna, General Manager of IBA Australasia.
“The surf is always pretty consistent at Newcastle Beach and with the weather we’ve had this week, we expect a big crowd.
“The first prize is a return trip to Hawaii for the first event on the IBA World Tour at Pipeline in Hawaii, so the best riders will be pushing the limits to get a win,” he said.

Lachie Cramsie (QLD), Lewy Finnegan, Davis Balckwell, George Humprehys (WA) and Mark Parsons (Central Coast) will take on the locals led by Kieren Schuck.
Kieran Schuck is keen to take on the challengers at his home break. The Novocastrian missed several key events on 2011 due to injury and school commitments and is eager for the event.
“I have been surfing in Samoa for the last few weeks and I feel like I am in good form,” he said.
Competition will get underway at 8am this Saturday at Newcastle Beach with competitors to meet at 7am.
