Just hours before Andre Botha reached headlines around the world for his amazing rescue of pro surfer Evan Geiselman at Pipeline, he was paddling into caverns at Waimea’s infamous shorebreak.

And while it was not perfect conditions for the shorebreak (it is a fickle wave to score), Dre still managed to find the odd beast amongst the wash-throughs.

“I ended up surfing the shorebreak for about an hour and a half but it wasn’t very big,” Dre told Riptide.

“It was pretty slow. But I caught one pretty good one.”

Moments later, Botha would making his way towards Pipeline, and the rest was history…
