While his addition into the Pipeline Pro pro division has raised doubts in bodyboarding circles, surfing superstar Jamie O’Brien showed off his boogie skills in the stand up division of the Pipe Trials today.

The North Shore local and reality television star overcame a strong field of some of Hawaii’s best barefoot bodyboarders to win the stand up division during day one of the Mike Stewart Pipeline Invitational trials at Keeaa’s on the West Side of Oahu today.

O’Brien was a standout throughout the heats, finding his way into two barrels in the final to finish with 18.6 points ahead of Mack Crilley (14.74), Sammy Morretino (12.22) and Alan Lamphere (7.93) in wedgy, three foot conditions.

In the Men’s prone trials, Maui local Noa Auweloa punched his ticket to the Pipeline Invitational after winning his final with 12.33 points ahead of Edson Viera (11.5), Kainoa Lono (7.03) and Luis Linares (6.0).

Joining Noa will be seven other competitors from the trials.
