It seems the allure of the world’s best bodyboarders going HAM at the world’s best wave has pricked the ears of the faceless men who pull the strings in the seedy underworld of sports gambling.

That’s right folks, Australian betting agency have opened a book on this year’s Mike Stewart Pipeline Invitational – and with that possibly sending bodyboarders across the world even more broke when they bet their second mortgage on Amaury “he’s a sure thing mate” Lavernhe to take home the title.

It’s been a long time between drinks for bodyboarding and online gambling, with the last foray being UK-based agency – which offered odds on every 2011 IBA World Tour event as well as odds on who will win the world title.

Unfortunately didn’t last long on the bodyboard scene. But not before renowned gambler Matt Lackey shook them down for whatever they had. (Listen to Matt talk about his betting antics in our podcast here.)

Sportsbet are offering a simple “on the nose” odds for most of the top riders in this year’s competition. Hawaii’s Jeff Hubbard has been dubbed the favourite at $5.00, followed closely by the 2014 Pipe champion Ben Player at $6.00 and reigning APB World Champion Jared Houston at $6.50.

While we certainly don’t encourage anyone to gamble away their hard earned coin, we think both Tanner McDaniel ($31) and Lachlan Cramsie ($41) are going at a ridiculously good price, while you should never, ever, count out the Brazilian comp-machine Guilherme Tamega at Pipe.

The Mike Stewart Pipeline Invitational is currently on Standby, with organisers looking at this Saturday, February 26 for a possible Green Light.
