Ah, how good are rumours?

Ever since word got out that reigning world champion Jared Houston was leaving his longtime board sponsor, Pride, the rumour mill went into overdrive as to where he would end up.

Numerous names were thrown out there, and we even speculated he would go to NMD (which was later denied by Houston).

But alas we can put the rumours to rest because the South African has signed a solid two year deal with NMD’s sister company The Versus Project (VS).

I guess we were close, right?

Meanwhile, the rumour mill will continue to churn on the next spicy topic…

2015 World Champion signs with The Versus Project

2015 APB World Champion Jared Houston has signed a two year deal with Australian Bodyboard brand, The Versus Project.

Houston commented after putting pen to paper:

“Signing with VS feels like an achievement in itself. Growing up VS was my favourite brand and to now find myself on the team along with one of my all time favourite bodyboarders, Dave Winchester it just feels surreal. I’m so pumped to continue to work closely with my long time shaper Dan Sivess, and to have access to the groundbreaking board technology developed by Mez. I’m so focused to take my signature collection a step further and put out the best boards you’ve ever seen. I feel super fired up to go and do some wild shit on my new boards, so get excited because it’s ON!”

VS founder NickMezMesritz commented: “I’d heard only good things about Jared, but after seeing him blaze a trail at the 2012 NMD/ VS Fronton Pro I was sure the kid had what it took to reach the top. After achieving his 1st APB world championship last year and now sitting in 2nd place on the 2016 tour, we are stoked to have Jared join VS and look forward to helping him achieve even more success in the years to come.”

The South African born Houston added: “Something I love about the Versus Project is the more artistic, non corporate approach it’s taken. I’ve always wanted to put a little bit of myself into my boards, which is why I’m so stoked on my new VS lion logo designed in collaboration with Australian based artist Elliott Layland. It’s going to feel good to have a piece of Africa underneath me from now on”.

Jared is the first World Champion to ride for The Versus Project. A full line of Houston signature model boards are currently in development and will be available at all good bodyboard outlets in the coming months.
