The HIF NSW Bodyboard State Titles wrapped up in a stellar fashion today with all finalists being crowned.

Again, the event was graced with picturesque two-to-three foot wedgey peaks for all competitors at Kiama Wedge.

Scott Arena (Ettalong) made the most of the playful conditions claiming a double-header victory across the Masters (Over-35) and Open Mens division. The Central Coast bodyboarder took no prisoners in the dual divisions, posting a handful of decent scores.

“In the past, I have mainly stuck to the Opens division, but thought I would give both the Masters and Opens a crack this year. I’m so happy to come away the win across both titles,” said Arena.

Zachary Armytage (Wombarra) added another HIF NSW Bodyboard State Title to his portfolio, taking out the coveted Dropknee division. Despite finishing in second position in most heats before the final, Armytage peaked at the perfect moment, taking the victory from Coffs Harbour locals and event standouts Matt Sullivan and Mitchell Ashcroft, as well as Matthew Mytka (Banksia), who claimed second, third and fourth respectively.

Shauna Gillett’s (Martinsville) domination of the Womens division paid solid dividends when the veteran competitor claimed another NSW Title for her mantelpiece. Gillett never lost a heat across the round and stood out as one of the best overall performers across the entire event.

Liam Lucas (Clovelly), Liam Newman (Maroubra) and Sam Giddy (Newport) all put on impressive displays of bodyboarding to claim victory in the Junior Men (Under-18), Cadets (Under-16) and Groms (Under-14) division.

Results of the HIF NSW Bodyboard State Titles will determine the NSW Bodyboard Team for the Australian Surf Festival, which takes place in Coffs Harbour in August.

The Open Mens champion will receive a wildcard into the Pro Mens division of an upcoming Australian Bodyboard Association (ABA) event.

The main location was Kiama Surf Beach located in the heart of Kiama. Back up locations were Jones Beach, Bombo Beach and Werri Beach.

2016 was the third year in a row the HIF NSW Bodyboard State Titles were hosted in Kiama.

The HIF NSW Bodyboard State Titles were proudly supported HIF, Kiama Council, Kiama Tourism, Toyota, Australian Skin Cancer Clinics, Ohana Ocean Athletics and Surfing NSW.
