After a successful second tour event in tropical French Polynesia for the Sparkgreen Tahiti Challenge, the bodyboarding world will turn its focus to Brazil.

Press release from APB Tour

The 2016 Itacoatiara Pro will be the third stage of the 2016 APB Tour and will host three divisions being the Men’s, Women’s and Pro Junior at the Itacoatiara Beach in Niteroi, Rio De Janiero from June 16 to June 26.

2015 Event Champion- Amaury Lavernhe (REU) will be looking to defend his title once again in Brazil and climb the rankings and chase down the Hawaiian Jeff Hubbard who currently sits in first position on the OpenLive Leaderboard.

“I’m super excited to return to brazil and defend my 2015 victory on the heavy beach break of Itacoatiara! This event is one of the strongest events on the tour today and as Brazil has the largest bodyboarding community it makes it even more special to me,” Lavernhe said.

“The contest last year was really physical as we had some massive conditions. I have already commenced my training so I arrive in shape and feel comfortable if the waves are big.”

This year will be the fifth consecutive year for the Itacoatiara Pro in Brazil and, with the Olympics set to start in the country in August, all eyes will be on the APB Tour as we draw focus to the heaviest wave Brazil has to offer.

The APB Men’s top 30 athletes will be joined by 16 qualifiers from the pre-rounds event (June 16) to make the new top 48 super format which was previously demonstrated in Tahiti.

Also, for the first time in history, the APB Women will compete and start their circuit along with the return of the successful Pro Junior division. Current Women’s World Champion – Alexandra Rinder (CNY) will do battle with former World Champion Isabela Sousa (BRA) on her home soil for the first time ever which will create a moment in Women’s Bodyboarding not to be missed.

Over the 11 day event window, the APB expects to run 7 to 8 days of competition and deliver an action-packed live broadcast to all the fans all over the globe as we watch the best Bodyboarder’s in the world go head to head with one of the heaviest and most dangerous beach breaks on the planet – Itacoatiara Beach.
