The APB has just announced that World Tour bodyboarding will return to Australian shores for the first time in 5 years.

The 2013 IBA South Coast Crusade was held at the very same venue, where Amaury Lavernhe took out the win from Aussies Jones Russell and Jake Stone.

That particular event was ground breaking with Jake Stone landing the first 720 in international competition.

Mike Stewart, Andrew Lester, Ben Player, Sacha Specker, Dave Winchester, Jeff Hubbard, Ryan Hardy and Dallas Singer were some of the huge names in the last event to be held on Aussie soil.

Gareth Ward, Parliamentary Member for Kiama, had this to say:

“Earlier today I was very pleased to announce that the world’s best bodyboarders will take to the waves in Kiama later this year, with the region set to host the inaugural Kiama Bodyboard Slam.

I am delighted that I have been able to work hard to secure this event in partnership with Kiama Council, and Surfing NSW.

The Kiama Bodyboard Slam will be one of five Association of Professional Bodyboarders (APB) World Tour events, ensuring the best bodyboarders in the world travel to the South Coast to compete.

It is expected to attract more than 450 overnight visitors to the region and deliver close to $300,000 in visitor spend.

NSW is the home of surfing in Australia and with Kiama already home to the World Surf League Junior World Championships, it is the ideal location to host this world bodyboarding event.

Elite athletes from around the world and their supporters will spend almost two weeks in the region, meaning more heads on hotel beds, diners in restaurants and new shoppers in town.”

The Kiama Bodyboard Slam waiting period will be from 30th July to 9th August 2018. It is the third stop on the APB World Tour, which also includes events in Chile, Brazil, Portugal and the Canary Islands.
